Soldiers’ Angels is seeking a Director of Field Operations who’s ready to step into a meaningful leadership role and make a direct impact on the lives of Service Members, Veterans, and their families. Based in the heart of the nation’s capital, this position is more than a job—it’s a call to continue your service in a new way.

As the boots-on-the-ground leader for our Washington, D.C. food distribution program, you’ll coordinate large-scale efforts to fight food insecurity and build out vital support services for the military-connected community across the Eastern U.S. You’ll train and mentor staff, mobilize volunteers, foster partnerships, and lead with a mission-first mindset. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Field Operations participates in the coordination and administration of all aspects of Soldiers’ Angels community-based programs including planning, organizing, and leading of program activities in the field in the assigned areas. The supervision and oversight includes fundraising, training, planning, program deliver, strategic planning, volunteer management, etc. The goal of this position is to ensure the proper level of oversight and support for the assigned members so they can increase efficiency and effectiveness and grow their teams. This position includes a heavy focus on fundraising and fundraising training for the assigned sites to ensure fundraising goals are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:   

  • Responsible for providing oversight, training, and management of assigned areas.
  • Responsible for managing programs and executing program strategy to include annual plans and operating budgets for assigned sites.
  • Responsible for fundraising in assigned areas, including national partnerships. Must be proficient in all areas of fundraising including major gifts donor management, cause-related marketing, third-party events, corporate relations, foundation grants, etc.
  • Responsible for a personal fundraising goal and training and oversight of assigned sites to ensure they also achieve their fundraising goals.
  • Develop thorough processes and procedures documenting tasks from start to finish to ensure consistency of service delivery and to maximize cross-training.
  • Benchmark and develop best practices for assigned sites.
  • Assist in the collection of community-based statistics to ensure the collection of accurate and timely data.
  • Ensures communication of projects and events.
  • Assists in the development of training materials.
  • Develop and train assigned sites.
  • Actively work in the volunteer database, ensuring all field volunteers are properly reporting and operating according to the established policies.
  • Communicate stories, pictures, quotes, and team statistics to the Vice President of Marketing and Communication.
  • Create a positive environment where two-way communication and strong trust are established.
  • Ensure assigned VA Representatives and their teams are fully trained in the skills necessary for them to succeed.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, such as Business Management, Project Management, or Nonprofit Management preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of fundraising experience required, with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, self-starter, entrepreneurial individual with a strong passion for change and motivations. 
  • Salesforce database experience preferred by not required.
  • Must be able to travel 30% of the time.
  • Capable of leading projects, people, and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence, engage, and manage a wide range of projects, staff, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to present compelling messages to individuals, groups, and the public.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize big-picture ideas and execute them into tangible actions.
  • 5–10 years prior experience working in a similar role.
  • High energy and passion for Soldiers’ Angels’ mission is essential.
  • A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.
  • Computer proficiency, with proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and Salesforce preferred.

LOCATION:

Must reside in the DMV area and have the ability to get to events easily that will be held mostly in DC but possibly the surrounding areas. This position will be fully remote to start, but we will be seeking office space in the near future. Once office space is secured, it will be fully on-site.
