Compensation:

  • Weekly Gross: $3,270.00 Per Week
  • On W2(Taxable): $960.00 Per Week ($20/hour)
  • Stipend (Non-Taxable): $2,2310.00 Per Week

 

Position Overview:

Hays Medical Center is actively seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) for a 13-week day shift travel contract. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a Level III Trauma acute care hospital with a patient-centered culture and a supportive clinical team.

 

The PCU RN will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients requiring intermediate-level monitoring and intervention, often those transitioning from critical care or needing close cardiac and respiratory assessment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver competent and compassionate care to PCU patients in a 1:4–5 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Perform IV starts and medication administration, including titrating drips as needed
  • Monitor and assess patient condition, interpret clinical data, and respond appropriately
  • Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care
  • Accurately document care in the Meditech electronic health record system
  • Adhere to facility protocols and evidence-based nursing standards
  • Float within scope of practice to other units based on facility needs
  • Rotate weekends and participate in holiday coverage as required

 

Requirements:

  • Active RN license – Kansas license required (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PCU or step-down experience – Required
  • IV Start experience – Required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – Required
  • First-time travelers accepted – Yes
  • Floating requirement: Yes, to units within scope if short-staffed
  • Weekend requirement: Rotation required
  • Block Scheduling: Limited to 3 or 4 shifts per week; no extended block schedules

Local Rule: Travelers must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility
